In Andhra Pradesh of the required 1197 PHCs, 1069 are in place leaving a shortfall for 128 or 11%. There is a shortfall of 120 CHCs or a 40% of 179.
An absence study published in Harvard magazine in 2011 in the joint state of Andhra Pradesh showed an absence ratio of 34.2% overall, 40.9% in doctors, 28.0% in nurses, 27.8% in pharmacists and 40.4% in other staff. In 36.5% of visits, no doctor was available.
Healthcare is a critical enabler of competitiveness as a healthy population is a productive population.
In the future, the challenge is to enable both the private and public sectors to work hand in hand to enable a healthy and disease free India, which is competitive.
